Do you long to be healthier and slimmer?
I’m not talking about the kind of healthy where we’re consumed with what we should eat; stressed about how many calories are in our foods, or obsessed about tracking our carb count.
I’m talking about the kind of healthy where you eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full.
- Where you’re not freaking out that one cookie will blow your entire diet.
- Where exercise is a natural expression of your body’s unique design, and not an appointment that you ‘MUST’ get to.
- Where your exercise does not need to be tracked on a Fitbit or on a StairMaster (even though I still do these things).
- Where you feel free, peaceful and fully accepting of your body and marvel at all it can do.
Well, that’s how God created us– to be in good health–in fact, we were created to be in excellent health!
So what happened to us? Why has our health fallen so low on our priority list? How did we manage to stray so far from our divine, perfect design?
Here’s as summary of why in one statement …When you’re not in alignment with who God says you are, you will align with who the world says you are!
Throughout our lives, there are many reasons why we’ve fallen out of alignment:
1. Our past failures take us out of alignment
When we try something and fail once, twice, or maybe multiple times, we tell ourselves that maybe we don’t have what it takes; we were never meant to achieve this goal; or that it’s impossible. These lies are based on fear and are not in line with what God says about us.
Unfortunately our words become our habits and our habits become our reality, so what was once a lie has now become our truth and we live each day as if that lie is an actual fact.
2. The draw of the world has taken us out of alignment
The health industry has build a trillion dollar industry around selling us lies. Fat is bad! Sugar is good! Low-fat products are good for you! Artificial sweeteners are safe! A healthy body should look like ‘x’! You can lose weight by sleeping if you use this product! You can melt the fat away! You don’t need to exercise if you eat a healthy diet! The less you eat, the less you will weigh! And the lies go on and on. The more we are seduced by the lies, the more we will fall out of alignment with God’s truth.
3. Our fears keep us out of alignment
There’s a popular expression, ‘the truth hurts’. For example, it’s easier to say that we will exercise later than to face the truth that we could be lazy. It’s easier to tell ourselves that we have no choice, than to face the truth that we have to be grown up and make responsible choices. And it’s easier to say that one bite won’t hurt than to face the truth that a spirit of gluttony resides in us.
All of these lies that we tell ourselves are rooted in fears. Fear of success, fear of failure, fear of rejection, and the list goes on. When we live in fear, it’s impossible to align with God because fear and faith can not operate in the same mind.
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love”. 1 Jn 4:18
4. The enemy pulls us out of alignment
I hate to even mention this one because we give the enemy a lot more credit than he deserves, but there are unequivocal circumstances where the devil does mess with us and try to keep us from what God has for us. Fortunately and unfortunately, the devil only has as much power as we give him.
So now what? Knowing that there are so many factors that take us out of alignment with God’s perfect design for our health, how do we get back in line?
How to get in alignment with God’s design for your health in 3 steps.
Step 1. REVEAL
Allow the Holy Spirit to reveal what’s really going on. Understand what’s pulling you out of alignment-stress, anxiety, lack of sleep? As you spend time with God he will reveal what’s really at the root.
STEP 2. RELEASE
Once you’ve identified the root, step 2 is to let-go of your fears and beliefs that have been stopping you from trusting God wholeheartedly. This isn’t a one-and-done thing. You will have to do it several times per day!
STEP 3. REMAIN
Believe it or not, getting healthy is the easy part. Maintaining it… not so easy. Once you get back into alignment with God, the daily fun is to remain in faith and action.
Share some of these things you do each day to stay in faith and action.

This was so eye-opening for me! I have been sitting here crying out to God wondering how I could’ve possibly fall in off the wagon so far. And as I open my email and started to read He just came flooding in. The realization that I have or had because I just cast out spirit of gluttony! Wow wow wow! I am also open to whatever else the holy spirit needs to reveal to me of any roots that must go. Excellent teaching! Thank you so much Cathy. I felt so uncomfortable in my own skin today. I want the truth the truth that sets you free so that I may be free indeed!
Cathy, I enjoyed reading your article. Staying in alignment with our creator is vitale. It is true the simple has become complex. Biblical nutrition is accessible to all. The Bible tells us to rest and renew our minds daily. We are also given examples of how food choices play a role in how we feel and look. (Daniel). The forbidden foods are listed in Leviticus. Staying healthy is an ongoing process. Thank God that he has given us a Manuel and the Holly Spirit, and full access to him through prayer. Thank you for taking the time to write and help others.
Thank you for reminding me of what I know is God’s truth. I have struggled with the challenge this week, but I am holding on to God’s Word. I know that it is not by might nor by power, but by his Spirit. I speak His truth today. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I am more than a conqueror through Christ who loves me. Now thanks be unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. Thank you for 1 John 4:18, which I am adding to my list.
Thank you.
I have gained unwanted weight in the past year and cannot stop beating myself up about it. It is consuming me.
On top of that I don’t seem to have the willpower or strength to loose it.
I live in constant conflict every day – it is robbing me my daily peace and joy.
Thank you for 1John 4:18
Every blessing
HI Denise, believe the Word of God over your present circumstances and situation. Victory is in your mouth so open your mouth and speak Gods word over you self-abuse, your lack of will-power and your lack of peace and joy. Believe that there is power in the Word of God. Find strength in Him, not in your own abilities.
