I was in church this morning, and the message was this: change does not come until a belief becomes a value.
I had already decided this was what I wanted to say to you this month. I sat down this morning and heard it preached better than I had planned to write it. Talk about confirmation.
You can believe something is true for years and never once act on it. A belief is something you agree with. A value is something you have paid for โ with your time, your money, your planning, your inconvenience, and everything you said no to in order to say yes to it. Belief is free. Value costs.
And I sat there doing the math on my own life.
For most of my adult life I believed I should be healthy. I did not doubt it for a second. I taught it. But what I actually valued was the number on the scale. So I chased weight loss. I chased the faster method, the newer plan, the gimmick that promised to shortcut the work. Meanwhile my blood sugar and my cholesterol sat right there in my chart, ignored, because they were not the thing I was measuring.
I was managing a number. I was not stewarding a body. I wanted to be healthy and I valued thin, and those two things sent me in completely different directions for years.
You get what you value, not what you want.
I did not want it any less than you do. Wanting was never the currency. You do not feed a body you are at war with. You feed a body you honor.
In almost forty years of doing this work, I have never once met a woman who did not already believe she should eat well. Not one. Every woman reading this could stand up right now and give a decent talk on vegetables, water, and portions.
The belief has never been the problem. That is exactly why more information has never fixed it. You do not need another article. You have been fully convinced for twenty years and it has not changed a single Tuesday night.
You feed what you value. Nobody has to be talked into taking care of something they treasure. You do it for your children without being reminded. The question was never whether you believe your health matters. The question is whether your body has ever made it onto the list of things you actually treasure.
โWhere your treasure is, there your heart will be also.โ
Matthew 6:21
โDo you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.โ
1 Corinthians 6:19โ20
Notice the order in that second passage. You are already His. You were already bought. Therefore honor Him with your body. The belonging comes first, and the honoring follows from it. You do not value your way into being loved by God. You are already loved, and that is precisely what makes your body worth tending.
So here is the harder question, and it is the one I want you sitting with this month. If the belief is already there, why has it not become a value?
Part of the answer is that a value has to be formed. It gets built by understanding what God says about this body and letting that reshape what you treasure. That is slow work, and it is the good kind.
And part of the answer is harder. You are not failing to value your body. You are being outvoted. Food was assigned a value in your life long before you had any say in the matter. Comfort. Reward. Safety. Celebration. The one dependable thing in a house where not much else was dependable. That value was installed early, you never consciously chose it, and it quietly outranks the new one every single time. You cannot promote a value while something older keeps outvoting it โ and you cannot deal with what you have never seen.
This Month’s Practice โ Eating As An Act of Honor
Every month at Weight Loss God’s Way we practice one principle on purpose โ one habit, rehearsed until it holds. This month we stop asking what am I allowed to eat and start asking what does this body actually need. Those are two entirely different questions, and only one of them has ever produced a change that lasted.
Your one step this week: the One Meal Test. Choose one meal a day โ only one. Prepare it the way you would prepare it for someone you love and respect. Put it on a plate. Sit down. No standing at the counter, no eating out of the container, no screen. Before the first bite, ask one question: what does this body need right now? Then eat it slowly enough to find out.
One meal. Not three. We are not overhauling your kitchen this week. We are practicing treating one plate a day like it belongs to somebody who matters โ because it does.
Imagine a community of us who stopped negotiating with our bodies and started honoring them. Not thirty women white-knuckling a meal plan until the fifteenth. Thirty women who genuinely value the body God gave them, and feed it accordingly, on the good weeks and the ordinary ones.
You get what you value, not what you want. So let us go change what we value. That is the month, and I would rather walk it with you than watch you try it alone.
If you have done the diets and prayed the prayers and still ended up back at the pantry, REVEAL is where you start โ four weeks that introduce the full Breakthrough Method and reveal what has actually been driving the eating.
