Why Do I Blame Myself for Everything? (It’s Not Your Fault)

Have you ever taken the blame for something that was out of your hands?

I used to blame myself for everything.

And most of the time, it was unwarranted.

✓  If someone reacted a certain way, it was my fault.

✓  If a new program launch didn’t go well, it was my fault.

✓  If very few people showed up at a get-together, it was my fault.

✓  If a friend canceled at the last minute, it was my fault.

Can you relate? You replay it, and you ask yourself, What did I do wrong?

If that’s you, please receive this today:

It’s not your fault.

Know that self-blame requires introspection, and that’s why it can be a good thing. Looking inward helps you grow, notice patterns, and take responsibility.

But the trap is when it goes too far, especially when it’s rooted in harsh self-judgment. Every disappointment starts to feel like proof that something is wrong with you.

If you’ve blamed yourself for as long as you can remember, there may be deeper wounds underneath. And those wounds can keep you stressed and stuck.

Your body feels it, too. It reacts to replayed conversations and fearful thoughts almost the way it reacts to real danger, and cortisol rises.

Over time, that disrupts your sleep, increases your cravings, and triggers emotional eating. That makes weight loss much harder than it needs to be.

The good news is that the deeper wounds underneath your self-blame are not too much for God. Psalm 147 praises Him for gathering His scattered people, and the very next line says this:

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Psalm 147:3, NIV

He wants to tend to those places in you.

Here’s the part I want you to hear. Even though it’s not your fault, you have a responsibility to change.

And the next step is to surrender this journey to God. I believe that’s why you’re part of this community and aligned with the message of Weight Loss, God’s Way.

You don’t have to fix yourself before coming to Him. Just come.

The next time the blame voice starts, answer it with a truth, and say it out loud:

I am chosen and dearly loved by God.

It’s safe. I’m okay. God is in control.
