Do you have any idea how powerful you are? Have you ever thought about it? In Luke 10:19 Jesus says, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” And that’s just one of many scriptures that talks about the power we have in Christ.
So if we have all of this power and authority, why do we feel so powerless? How is it that we have been given the power and authority to cast out demons, yet we can’t stop ourselves from eating a piece of chocolate? Why do we struggle with so many issues around our weight such as emotional eating, physical inactivity, self-control, guilt and feelings of low self-esteem?
The problem is analogous to having an air conditioner on a scorching hot day. We have been given an indispensable tool to help us but until we plug in the a/c, we will never receive the benefit and the power that exists at our disposal. Until we call on the Holy Spirit to be our help, as our instruction book tells us, we will never walk in the authority we have been given.
Plugging into our Holy Spirit power will require 3 things:
1. Tune In
Are you aware of how the Holy Spirit is working in your life? Can you see God in your life? In nature? In other people? Take some time today to tune into God’s presence in everything you do. In fact, I challenge you to acknowledge Him in all you do today. The more to see how active He is in your life, the more you will grow to trust Him and rely on Him to help you in every area of your life– including your health.
“…in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight~” Proverbs 3:5
2. Tune Out
If we are truly honest with ourselves, we live much of our lives on automatic pilot allowing our senses to take in whatever we see, hear, smell and touch and taste.
This level of living keeps us stuck and robs us of our joy. Your successful weight loss will require you to tune out all the distractions we experience on a daily basis. Tune out the peer pressure; tune out the world’s expectations of what you should look like; all the music, movies, Facebook and other forms of social media that get in the way of your relationship with Christ. It’s time to turn our attention back to what ( who) matters most.
Do not handle!Do not taste!Do not touch!~ Col 2:21
3. Turn Around
Let’s face it, we all lose our way sometimes and just need to be turned back in the right direction. We either get bored, misled or just plain ol’ tired of the struggle. When you find yourself falling into that trap, it’s time to turn around and get back on track. Remember, it’s about progress, not perfection so don’t worry about how many times you slip up. What’s important is that you get back on track.
Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matt. 18:22 NIV
