The Small Change That Had a Big Impact on My Health

As the month comes to a close, I am reflecting on what I accomplished — and I hope you are too. In Weight Loss God’s Way, we spent August practicing healthy eating habits, and I did not only teach them. I practiced them right alongside our champions. I kept up my intermittent fasting. I loaded my plate with vegetables at meals. And I am proud of how I ate — in spite of all the days I did not eat the way I planned.

And now we turn the page to September, and we are focusing on moving our bodies! As I sat to plan what I would do, I remembered the changes I made to my health this year. I added several — and one of them was so small I almost overlooked it. I am excited to share that one with you.

It started when my doctor chastised me about my cholesterol. That was the wake-up call I needed. I already take care of my health — but this was the push to challenge myself beyond what was convenient, beyond what fit easily into my schedule.

That small change made a surprisingly big difference — in both my cholesterol and my blood sugar. It is simple, and I am not holding it back. Here it is: I move after I eat. Most days I take a short walk after both of my meals — ten minutes, sometimes fewer. It does not have to be a walk. You can stretch, or put on a song and dance in your kitchen — anything except sinking back into the couch. And you can start with just one meal.

You do not need a diagnosis to begin. Most evenings, you finish eating, the kitchen gets cleaned up, your show goes on, and you settle onto the couch for the night. You may have heard that the answer is to move more, and it sounds like an hour you do not have — so you file it under someday and sit back down. But guess what — you do not need an hour. It is a few minutes, after one meal, and you can start tonight.

“Whoever is faithful in little is faithful in much.” — Luke 16:10

There is no shortcut here. There is only the small, daily task — and the good news I have built my whole ministry on is this: the small, daily task is exactly what God honors. A few minutes after a meal is not too small to matter. It is the whole point.

You do not have to feel ready. You only have to begin.

By the pool of Bethesda there was a man who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. The belief was that when the water stirred, the first one in would be healed — and in thirty-eight years, he had never been first. When Jesus asks whether he wants to get well, the man does not simply say yes. He explains. He has no one to help him into the water, and someone always steps down ahead of him. He had a reason, and he had carried it a long time. Jesus does not lower him into the pool or settle his argument. He says three words that undo all of it.

“Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”

John 5:8

The healing came when he got up — when he stopped waiting for the perfect moment and simply obeyed. We are not so different. We all have our reasons, and we can carry them a long time. But God is not asking you to feel ready first, or to wait until the conditions are perfect.

All month we have said the same thing about your body — that it is a temple, bought at a price, given to you to honor. Honoring it does not begin with a plan you finally feel prepared for. It begins with one small yes, today. This is not really about the number on a scale. It is about whether you will take the step in front of you and let God meet you there.

And the few minutes matter for a simple reason. When you eat, your blood sugar rises highest in the hour or so afterward — and when you move, your working muscles pull that sugar out of your blood to spend as fuel, so the rise is gentler. You are not burning off the meal. You are helping your body handle it — and the best time to move is soon after you eat, within about half an hour, while that rise is happening.

This Month’s Practice — Move After You Eat

Weight Loss God’s Way is not a diet or a weight loss guide. It is a movement — changing the way women approach their health and their weight-releasing journey. We change small habits one or two at a time. That is the Breakthrough Method — no vows, no overhauls, one principle practiced until it holds. This month, that principle is getting active, and we are starting with the smallest, most doable step there is.

Your one step this week: after one meal, move.

Pick one meal — the easiest one, likely dinner. When you finish, do not sink into the couch just yet. Take a short walk, stretch, or put on a song and move for a few minutes. Then notice honestly: how does your body feel an hour later, compared with the nights you stayed put? One meal. Not every meal. This is noticing, not a vow.

This is how we do it here — one principle at a time, little by little. You are caring for the body that carries you through the life God has for you — the fuller, freer life He meant you to live in it. A few minutes after a meal is a fine place to begin. You do not have to feel ready. You only have to start. And you will not begin alone — a whole community of women is choosing a few honest minutes of movement over the couch, right where they are, one meal at a time.

If it has been a while since you felt like you were moving forward, REVEAL is where our final cohort of the year begins — five live coaching calls with me and Dr. Denise Bullard, walking through Stage One of the Breakthrough Method, ending with your own Breakthrough Blueprint. Doors open September 14, and this is the last REVEAL cohort of the year — the next door after this one is 2027.
