This morning, I had a super inspiring call with my accountability partner. Since we’re both morning people, we choose to meet at 5:00 AM. I am so grateful to have her in my life.
Accountability is another one of the many tools that I need to help stay focused on my goals this year and always.
She and I both recognize that without accountability, we can easily slip back into old habits and downright lie to ourselves. We realize that our flesh will never stop fighting to fulfill its lusts. It is important to remain diligent and fight back.
We both recognize that it’s not enough to want to change. It’s not enough to hope for change, or even just pray for it. Dreams are worthless unless you actually act on them. Nothing changes until you do. That’s why we’ve made the sacrifice to wake up early and be transparent. We allow ourselves to be vulnerable with each other.
Know that the change you and I desire is not going to happen automatically. You aren’t just going to get healthier by accident. Change is a choice that requires challenge– meaning, there is no growth in your life without making a choice to change what’s not working. And there is no change without challenging yourself to step out of your comfort zone and do something different.
Yes, it will be uncomfortable. Yes, there will be a price to pay. It could be sleep, money, time, or looking bad, but there’s always a cost. And yes, it will require sacrifice. That’s why you may be stuck right now — You may not be ready to get uncomfortable, or you may not be ready to pay the price– whatever it may be. Although you may not want to hear this right now, examine yourself and see if that’s the reason why you’re stuck.
But, I have some great news for you today. As a believer, you have a new power in you that is greater than the desires of your flesh. That power is the Holy Spirit and when you submit your will and your ways to Him, you will be able to change. When you walk in His power, you won’t be so afraid of change. You won’t be afraid to challenge yourself. In His strength you can overcome food temptations, emotional eating, over eating and all kinds of sin that so easily ensnares us. Change requires challenge, so with Him meet it head-on.
Your role is to take the first step in faith and admit your inability to lose weight on your own then invite the Holy Spirit to help you. No, you can’t do it, but God can!
Ask yourself – what brave step will you take today to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself?
